Late-breaking update
On May 12 the Sponsorship Committee forwarded a new set of application papers for a ʻnewʼ refugee family. Also a family of five with small children. Then on May 16 we heard from the CBOQ that this application had been duly passed on to the Canadian Immigration office in Winnipeg. The family name is Al Atmeh. They are from Daraa in Syria, but currently in a refugee camp in Jerash, Jordan. Ahmad (husband) is 33 years old; Randa his wife is 25 years old. The eldest child, a boy, is Saleh aged 6. His brother Ibrahim is 5 years old and their sister, Sham is 19 months old. They have no relatives in Canada. They speak Arabic and a smattering of English. Ahmad has Grade 8 and has worked in construction and as a labourer. Randa has attained Grade 7 education. We will of course keep updating everyone as information comes along.
