MacNeill COVID-19 Update

Mar 26, 2020 by

March 26, 2020

Further to our response to the COVID- 19 virus from last week – Mon March 16, 2020 – your leaders continue to connect and have made the difficult decision to extend the pause on our church services.  This decision remains in line with the Ontario Medical of Officer of Health, provincial and federal guidelines:

  • According to the provincial guidelines, gatherings of more than 50 or more are significantly discouraged.
  • All non-critical services and businesses must close by Tuesday March 24, 2020 at midnight

As such, we will tentatively plan to return to the church on Sun April 19, 2020 at 11am (our regular time)

  • This decision has not been easy for us, especially given the Lenten and Easter Season we are in, but we know, based on the information shared by our health experts that it is the right decision.
  • This does mean Easter Sunday activities, including the breakfast, will not occur at this time.
  • We continue to monitor updates being shared and will make any further changes, as necessary.

This website should be consulted for provincial updates on the virus.

Offerings and Donations:

It is our responsibility and desire to ensure the commitments we’ve made for staff salaries be honoured.  As such, I’m making an urgent plea that you send in your regular donations either through the mail or by dropping it off at the church in the outside mailbox.  We are exploring alternate methods of receiving your offering including the option of linking to a portal called ‘Canada Helps’ which has been designed to support processing church offerings and deposit them directly into the churches bank account.  Stay tuned for more news on that front.

Pastoral Care

It is our hope that, during this time of isolation and disruption, everyone will feel connected with the MacNeill church family and supported by the love of our congregation.

Rev Terry Dempsey, our Pastoral Care Coordinator, together with the Pastoral Care Team, has put together several small watch-care groups to ensure that everyone experiences this support.  You will soon be hearing from ‘your’ watch-care group leader.

Any concerns can be passed on to your group leader, to Terry or to any community member of the Pastoral Care Team (Bruce Papky, Olga Jenkins, Heather Hobbs and Beverly Woods)

Terry stands ready to make phone contact with anyone who would like this.  He will be supplementing the watch-care contacts with his own pastoral phone calls and emails.  Terry will also serve as direct watch-care contact person to all watch-care leaders as well as MacNeill’s four chaplains and their families.  He can be reached by cell phone at (905) 512-9897 or at 1 (519) 304-3601 and by email at dempseydt@rogers.com

We recognize that the hospital-based portion of our Pastoral Care Team (Bob Bond, Claire Gosselin, David Jones & Feli Toledo) are fully on the frontlines of this crisis offering spiritual care and support in challenging circumstances.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at home.

Please continue to hold all those who are vulnerable and those who are providing necessary services throughout our community, country and world.

Worshiping together from the comfort of our homes:

Thanks to our Minister of Music and Coordinator of Worship – Leanne Tees, we had the opportunity to join in a collective Worship experience this past Sunday by following an Order of Service created and made available on the website (and delivered to those not comfortable with the technology by members of our Pastoral Care Team).  Such a rich experience and we are so grateful and blessed having such a creative experience.  Leanne isn’t done yet, so stay tuned for what’s coming next!!

It’s only been one week, but it already feels like forever.  I know we all miss getting together as a faith community, but let’s focus on the opportunities this very unique experience offers. Don’t stop reaching out to your church family friends by phone, emailing or texting.

Wishing you a house full of sunshine,

Hearts full of cheer,

Love that grows deeper,

each day of the year

(Welsh Blessing)

Stay Healthy, Stay Safe and Stay Calm everyone!
